How Do I Manage Delay?
After starting a call in MS Studio, navigate to the Call Panel. Once a user joins the call, you will see small + and - buttons, as well as large + and - buttons under their profile picture. These controls allow you to increment or decrement their delay value based on the currently selected delay mode.
Delay Adjustment Controls
- Small + / -: For fine adjustments to the delay.
- Big + / -: For larger increments or decrements to the delay.
These adjustments are all based on the active delay mode you've chosen (Manual, Auto, or Manual + Auto).
Recommendations for Managing Delay
When managing delays during a call, consider the following best practices:
Using Manual Mode
- Check Ping: When in Manual mode, check everyone's ping and identify who has the highest ping. Subtract the highest ping from each participant's individual ping to determine their delay amount.
Example:
- If User 0 has a ping of 80ms, User 1 has 20ms, and User 2 has 40ms:
- Highest Ping: User 0 (80ms)
- User 0 Delay: 0ms (80 - 80)
- User 1 Delay: 60ms (80 - 20)
- User 2 Delay: 40ms (80 - 40)
This method ensures synchronization among participants based on their network conditions.
Interaction Tips
- Interacting Participants: If you have two people interacting with each other, such as one punching the other, it's crucial to manage their pings effectively:
- Ensure the participant reacting (the one being punched) has the lowest ping.
- The participant delivering the punch should have the highest ping among the group.
This setup allows the reaction to occur first, while delaying the participant with the lower ping to match the higher ping of the puncher. As a result, the interaction will appear perfectly synchronized in the call, even though the reaction happens first.
By following these guidelines, you can effectively manage delays and enhance the overall experience during your calls in MS Studio.
